This map, taken from the Harvard Center for International Development’s Atlas of Economic Complexity, shows the net exports (in USD) of finished chocolate products for the year 2010. (Source) Unfortunately, the source URL does not include one important parameter: the “Product Class” parameter needs to be set to “SITC4” rather than “HS4” to reproduce the data in this map.
A tree map view shows the same data, and there’s also a tree map of importing nations.
For a finished product like chocolate, with a robust international trade, the views of gross exports and gross imports may be more informative, since they include countries like France and the United States that are both large consumers and large producers.
