Some Helsinki architecture

Hartwall Arena

I attended the World Figure Skating Championships, which were held in Hartwall Arena — named after a brand of beer — during the last week of March. It’s a fairly ordinary specimen of its type; the only really interesting feature is the way it was built in the wye junction of the two major railway lines heading out of Helsinki. Parking for the arena is in a sub-surface structure below the paved surface seen here, looking out onto the railroad cut.
